A Growing Institution
Founded in 2010 with only 40 learners, Bishop Muge Memorial School has grown to serve 1,151 students, making it one of Nandi County’s leading primary schools. The school, led by Principal Mr. Sammy Sawe, is regionally and nationally recognized for both academic performance and volleyball excellence.

Strengths and Support Systems
The school is named after the late Bishop Muge, a renowned church leader who empowered the community. It provides holistic care through a chaplain, church, and dispensary. With 27 teachers supported by non-teaching staff, Bishop Muge Memorial continues to thrive despite challenges. Approximately 120 learners from poor families are fully sponsored, exempted from paying fees.
Key Challenges
- Severe overcrowding, with up to 87 learners in one classroom.
- No dining hall, forcing students to eat outdoors.
- Dormitory congestion, with only 7 dorms for all boarders.
- Poor infrastructure: dilapidated latrines, broken windows, and rusty iron-sheet kitchen.
- Sports kits shortages, despite volleyball success.
- Water supply challenges, with reliance on community water and inadequate tanks.
- Underutilization of 6 hectares of school land.
PTR Observations
Our workshop revealed both the remarkable achievements and urgent needs of the school. Bishop Muge Memorial has the potential to be a national model school, but requires immediate support for infrastructure, water, and sports facilities.

Conclusion
Bishop Muge Memorial demonstrates the strength of leadership and community, but urgent interventions are needed to sustain its growth. Investment in classroom expansion, dining facilities, and water sustainability would enable the school to continue shaping leaders on and off the field.
